THE STORY OF JARROD, WAYNE & GUYUTES…

As you drive down the historic district of Uptown, OKC, you’ll come to the crossroads of Shartel & 23rd and stumble upon a unique, industrial building with a flat rooftop filled with people sipping cocktails while enjoying the cuisine. Guyutes is a staple of the revamped Uptown 23rd and one of the first rooftop patios in OKC. Everything from the jam atmosphere to the late-night hours to the unconventional menu sets it apart from the rest.

Jarrod & Wayne, co-owners of Guyutes, knew that they wanted to take their love of music and food and share it with the community. Wayne had been in the music industry touring, and Jarrod had been in the construction business, but both knew that they wanted to create something of their own. What started as a conversation after many drinks at their favorite local bar down the street turned into a tangible goal that they put pen and paper to the next day.

The creation of Guyutes transcended from their love of their favorite band, Phish. Neither Jarrod nor Wayne nor, most likely any Phish fan, could explain the meaning behind the lyrics of Guyute, but they knew it would be a conversation starter. Jarrod & Wayne heard Phish for the first time in the summer of ‘98 and immediately fell into the seemingly cult following that the band brought along with it.

As you walk through the doors, you’ll notice each wall is filled with framed band posters of live shows they’ve attended throughout the years. Anything from Prince to Phish to MGMT plays over the speakers. Each menu item is based on a band or song and has a unique twist on an otherwise traditional menu item. The menu could be described as approachable, but slightly weird. It has anything from wraps, pizzas, burgers, salads, and plenty of gluten-free and vegan options.

The brunch menu includes carafes of mimosas with pineapple, orange, strawberry banana, cranberry, or grapefruit juice on Saturdays and Sundays until 3. The drink menu consists of a lengthy list of specialty cocktails, beer, wine, and spirits. A crowd favorite menu item is the Disco Biscuit and the Fire on the Pineapple cocktail. The regular menu is served until 1:30 a.m. to appease the late-night munchie crowd.
